We’re all doing this for free!
Brian Teeman · OPEN SOURCE CMS 26
Servers. Domains. Legal. Trademarks. The unglamorous stuff.
Not even a "related" company from the project founder.
No payroll for project managers.
No salaries for the people running the project.
There is no company behind Joomla paying developers to write code (or anything else).
Open Source Matters handles the project’s finances and legal responsibilities.
Who would build it? Maintain it? Still care twenty years later?
People kept showing up. The technology changed. The faces changed. The project continued.
There isn’t one correct way to contribute.
Sometimes the most valuable thing you can do is help the next person get started.
Someone answered your question. Fixed your bug. Wrote the instructions you needed.
They built something for a future they couldn’t see — and for people they’d never meet.
Someone helped you. You help someone who comes next. They help someone after them.
People and companies who benefit can support the project financially. But a donation is not the only way to help.
That’s how a room full of good people can still leave the work to nobody.
Choose one thing. Make one contribution. Help one person who comes after you.
It was made possible by people you may never meet.
Make it possible for someone else.
Twenty years ago, they said Joomla wouldn’t last. The faces change, the technology changes, and Joomla evolves.
But one thing remains: Joomla is free, built by the people who use it, for the people who use it.
We’re here because people keep choosing to pay it forward.
